Paul V. Simpson

Mr. Simpson has been engaged in the practice of employment law since 1978. Before entering private practice he served as an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). In private practice he has effectively represented clients in state and federal courts, before the NLRB, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), California Department of Fair Employment & Housing (DFEH), the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), the California Division of Labor Standards (DLSE), and a myriad of other state and federal agencies. He has achieved the Martindale-Hubbell national lawyers rating service’s highest rating for legal ethics and effectiveness.

As a strong advocate of preventive counseling, Mr. Simpson has worked with numerous companies to develop and implement policies and practices that safeguard against employment litigation. He also advises and represents employers in disputes involving unfair competition and theft of proprietary information and company property. Mr. Simpson also advises California employers regarding union-management issues including union organizing issues, collective bargaining negotiations and arbitration representation.

Mr. Simpson has extensive litigation experience in state and federal courts. A partial listing of federal court cases in which he acted as lead attorney is set forth below. He has also successfully argued cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California state courts of appeals.

An effective communicator, Mr. Simpson has lectured on labor and employment law topics before many industry and professional associations, including California Continuing Education of the Bar, Alliance of Chief Executives, Engineering & Utility Contractors Association, Associated General Contractors of California, the Industrial Claims Association, Employers Group; Associated Builders and Contractors, American Bar Association Construction Law Section, Lumber Merchants Association, and the Institute of Business Law. His public service has included appearances as a guest radio and television commentator discussing legal workplace issues.

He is co-author of Lowest Responsible Bidder: A Guide to Merit Shop Construction (Executive Enterprises, 1987); A Contractor's Guide To Prevailing Wage Law In California, (2000 Edition); and a contributing author of the Construction Lawyer's Guide to Labor & Employment Law (American Bar Association 2001).
